Are you already busy cleaning up that bulging wardrobe and putting away the winter items? But what do you do with clothes you no longer wear? Don't throw it away, but exchange! Come to CHANGEZ in BlueCity on Sunday May 7. We are once again organizing the largest clothing exchange in Rotterdam in collaboration with The Swapshop and are transforming the wave pool into a large SWAP & REPAIR department store. With a continuous Textile Repair Cafe in collaboration with the textile makers of the Wijkpaleis and workshops because repairing is something you can learn. We are very happy with our friends from WEAR. They are present with their collection of pre-loved sneakers. There is also a sustainable food court with Het Nieuwe Nassen. Oh yes, in response to many requests more racks of men's clothing are available, so men don't have to cry anymore, but can also trade and score sneakers.

Stop buying new stuff and start Swapping

Behind the clothes we wear every day, there is a world of pollution. The textile industry even causes more CO2 emissions than international aviation and maritime transport combined. This, while an average Dutch wardrobe is full of 50 items of clothing that are not worn. That's a shame. By exchanging your clothes instead of buying new, you can significantly reduce your own environmental impact. Curious about the difference? During the event we keep track of how much water and carbon we have all saved compared to an afternoon of shopping.

Fuck new buy pre-loved

As said, we are very happy with our friends from WEAR. They are present with their collection of pre-loved sneakers, second-hand sneakers that have been completely refurbished and contain a new insole. They also show you how to care of your own sneakers to extend the life of your favorite sneakers. By giving your sneakers a longer life, you contribute to a sustainable production chain. Longer use means that you don't have to buy a new pair of sneakers as quickly and therefore less has to be produced. Do you have sneakers that you no longer wear? Give them a second life at someone else and hand them in during CHANGEZ.

Workshops: Kintsugi and textile dyeing with flowers and plants

You can follow workshops during CHANGEZ; a Kintsugi workshop and a textile painting workshop with flowers and plants. Kintsugi is an ancient repair technique in which you fill broken ceramics with Urushi, a natural resin mixed with gold. That way you give your tableware new life. Kintsugi is not only a technique, it is also a philosophical approach to embrace imperfections. Fashion designer Emma Nuis from Ikigaia dyes her fabrics as much as possible with paint from nature. The nice thing is, you can find these plants and flowers in your own home and garden. Learn to dye your own clothes with flowers and plants, without harming the environment.
